The Initial UFC PPV of the year goes in Boston when UFC 220 Happens into the TD Garden on January 20.
The top of the card includes the two title fights, as Stipe Miocic attempts to derail the hype train of Francis Ngannou and Daniel Cormier seems to establish there are amounts vs Volkan Oezdemir.
After those two occasions, many casual fans probably will not understand another fighter with this card. Luckily, I really do and I am here to help you understand the fights and maybe pad your bankroll.
Miocic has built his game around his world boxing abilities. He always probes with his long jab, as he waits for his opportunity to counter. That being said, Miocic might be better when he is fighting in a phone booth with more power in his brief punches than most humans have, period. Additionally, the reigning champion is a former D1 wrestler that has adapted his personality excellently to MMA. Generally, these skills are used defensively but Miocic will also use them to wear down opponents. In case Miocic has one big negative, it’s his defense. He has a terrible tendency to have a hit to provide a hit.
Ngannou is the epitome of physical evolution. «The Predator» is a mountain of a guy with an 83-inch reach and perhaps the toughest natural punching power I’ve ever seen. A lot of people point to his ability and natural athleticism but Ngannou’s awareness and sense when to counter-strike is that of someone well beyond his years. The grappling match remains raw but his natural power helps him bully his opponents in the clinch. The real question is whether Ngannou has the capability to get from his back if he gets taken down against an elite wrestler.
In the event that you were to ask me who the better fighter is, I would say Miocic. And I hate not backing a champion as an underdog. However, his tendency to carry unnecessary punches is a recipe for disaster vs Ngannou. One minor error by Miocic means this fight is finished and that seems like a»if» rather than an»if.»
